Sound of Mull (June 2025)

In early June, a group of us headed up to the Sound of Mull, one of Scotland’s most iconic diving locations, for a long weekend of wrecks, scallops, and (mostly) decent weather. Based out of Lochaline, we dived all the main historic shipwrecks and a couple of natural sites too, all set against the atmospheric backdrop of the Highlands.

Wreck Highlights:
• SS Hispania: A classic – upright and intact, covered in life. Along with a moderate current which gave us a nice drift along the starboard side.
• SS Shuna: Shallower and very atmospheric. We had relatively calm seas and flat light, making for good conditions to explore this old coal ship, including inside the engine room for those who penetrated it.
• Rondo: One of the more technical dives of the trip — vertical wreckage dropping from ~10m to nearly 50m. A fantastic deco dive for the tech divers, and quite eerie in the low light.

And to top it off, in the evenings we took turns to craft some delicious, hearty meals for the group, and had some quality social time, along with dive planning for the next day.
